At Academy of Korean
Martial Arts our children's programs are second to none. We teach our students
using a basic philosophy of positive reinforcement to build and strengthen their
self-esteem, confidence, discipline, positive attitude, and values. We realize
that although the ability to defend ourselves is important, there are many
additional benefits to be gained from involving your child in our martial arts
program. Our unique method of training is fun and is designed to:
Each week our program will focus on a specific aspect of martial arts training such as fitness, confidence, persistence, personal safety, and so forth. These individual subjects are addressed in our "Lesson of the Week" where we highlight just how martial arts can improve many areas of our students' lives. By embodying these principles in our children's classes, the Academy of Korean Martial Arts team has made a strong commitment to today's youngsters. Our carefully designed programs for children from age five and up will improve your child's performance in sports as well as improve study habits and increase overall concentration. In addition to this, by building self-confidence, self-respect, and self-discipline, we are giving young people tools to deal with many problems and stressful situations they face growing up in today's world including drugs, peer pressure, and gangs. WHAT AND HOW WE TEACH We teach the martial art style of Hapkido and our tests are carried out by certified registered blackbelts under the direction of the Chief Instructor. Our Senior Black Belt ranks are all registered with World Kido Federation. The adult curriculum is modified for our younger students. We divide our junior students according to age to begin with. (This is only a rough guide as ability, maturity, and attitude will be equally important.)
Little Dragons:
4 - 7 years Cadets: 7 - 10 years Teens: 11 - 18 years Little Dragons - Full of life, "breathing fire" and in need of direction and containment. If channeled correctly, they will mature and flourish. The Little Dragons are taught a curriculum that is specially designed to introduce martial art skills with an added emphasis on safety and life skills for these younger students. (They will become Cadets when the senior instructors consider them able to take on the added responsibilities and increased technical content of this program. This means that one particularly able and mature child will become a Cadet while still 6 years old while another may not move up until after their 7th birthday.) Cadets - Young, energetic, and searching for recognition. Children at this age are building character traits that will carry them into adulthood. The CADET'S program is an exciting program that emphasizes more technical self-defense skills and is presented in a high-energy format designed especially for children. Although we teach traditional martial arts, our teaching methods are geared to the twenty-first century student. Teens - Surrounded by influences both good and bad, teens guidance, encouragement, and leadership to help guide them toward the right choices. A student enters the TEEN'S class at any time after their 12th birthday and when, either they reach green belt, or when they have demonstrated that they are of sufficient maturity to deal with the extended syllabus. They learn the full adult syllabus of The World Hanmudo Association. We believe that our classes encourage our young students to develop these character traits that will carry on into their adult lives.
